Rīgas satiksme Announces Procurement for Bus Deliveries
To ensure the sustainable development of public transport and implement the objectives approved in its medium-term strategy, while promoting environmentally friendly and sustainable transport and maintaining the ability to ensure service continuity in various situations, Rīgas satiksme has announced a procurement for the delivery of 60 electric buses and 60 diesel buses. The procurement also provides Rīgas satiksme with the right to place an additional order for 30 to 90 electric buses within 32 months from the date of signing the contract. All new buses are planned to be 18 metres long.
The procurement includes requirements regarding the vehicles’ technical parameters, safety, accessibility, energy efficiency, and maintenance. The deadline for submitting bids is 1 July 2026.
The passenger compartment will include solutions to facilitate daily maintenance and cleaning, including new seat upholstery materials that will differ from those currently in use. The new buses are also planned to feature enclosed driver cabins, providing drivers with a safer and more ergonomic working environment.
The procurement also sets requirements regarding vehicle delivery, warranties, warranty service provision, and quality control. Bids will be evaluated according to several criteria, including price, electricity or fuel consumption, warranty periods, and, for diesel buses, exhaust emission indicators, in order to select the most economically advantageous long-term offer.
More detailed information about the procurement is available here.
Currently, the Rīgas satiksme bus fleet consists of more than 400 buses, a significant part of which are older than the intended 12-year operational lifespan and have reached the end of their useful service life. Some vehicles have already been in operation for 20 years or more, significantly increasing maintenance costs and reducing efficiency.
